Women’s Head Coach: Melissa Lewis

Melissa Lewis is Gold Coast Waverider’s Women’s Head Coach. Melissa comes to us with great playing and coaching experience. She is currently coach of the Gold Coast U13s and U15s Girls Representative Teams, Coach of Southern Blaze Girls U15s Team, and Coach at the Female U17 QLD Rookie Challenge. Melissa is also working with Cricket Australia on a Female Coaching Project. She has been a coach in Gold Coast District Cricket Club since 2017. She is a Cricket Gold Coast Junior Board member, female rep cricket coordinator, Qld Cricket coach as well as coach, mentor, and manages the female junior cricket teams at the Dolphins.

Men's Head Coach: Peter Clifford

Peter is one of the best coaches that Queensland cricket has seen. This former Australian first-class cricketer started his career as a cricket coach in 1992. He has coached domestically and internationally and has worked with some of the world’s best cricketers. Cliffo’s first-class career spanned over almost a decade for NSW and then QLD with a highlight year of 919 runs in 12 matches including three centuries in 84/85. He has since forged a quality coaching reputation and took the Toombul District Cricket Club first grade side to a semi-final berth this season.

Matt Finch - U12:

Matt played cricket up until early 20s and came back into cricket when his sons started playing. Matt has been coaching since 2011 and is the coaching director at Carina Cricket Club since 2019.

 

Matt has a level 2 representative accreditation in 2019. He coached Waveriders under u15 last year and BEARS u12 development team at the Ian Healy cup

Paul Woodford - U13:​

Originally from England, Paul came over to Australia after finishing school to study sports and exercise science at UQ. He played at UQ for the last 6 years in 1st and 2nd grade and has been coaching for the last 8 years in Australia.

 

Paul is currently the Director of Cricket at Brisbane Boys’ College.

Mick Steinhardt - U14:

Mick has been coaching for 3 years and has a level 2 representative coach certification. Mick has Coached u14’s, 15’s South East Queensland state side U14’s development and coaches out of Springwood Suns (Logan District).

Dion Collins - U15:

Dion’s involvement in cricket has been life-long – from playing rep cricket in the country to three years of Grade Cricket in Brisbane while working as a Technical Assistant with the Queensland Bulls. More recently, he has coached and managed junior teams for Wynnum and BEARS. Outside of cricket, Dion has coached successful junior rugby teams, indoor cricket teams and Queensland and Australian Junior Athletics Teams (travelling extensively both domestically and internationally).


Dion assisted across all the junior Waveriders teams in 2021. He spent much time with last year’s U15s and with seven players retained from this team, looks forward to coaching this age group in 2022.

Dale Hansen - U16:

With more than 8 years’ experience coaching junior and development cricket, Dale Hansen understands youth cricketers. As a level 1 and BPL01 Waveriders U12 Coach, he is a selfless and tireless worker known around all SEQ cricket circles for his playing, coaching, and volunteering in both Community and Grade Cricket.

Harsha De Silva - U17:

Harsha is a former National Coach at Sri Lanka Cricket and current Director of Cricket/ Head Coach of the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club.


He has over 20 years’ experience and is well known in Premier Club Cricket. He’s a Cricket Australia Level 3 accredited coach

Craig McDermott - U18:

Craig McDermott is a former Australian cricketer. Between 1984 and 1996 he played 71 Tests for Australia, taking 291 wickets. Following the end of his playing career, he was the bowling coach for the Australian team for two spells between 2011 and 2016.
